Rochester, N.Y.-based VP Supply Corp. recently acquired J.E. Sawyer, a Glens Falls, N.Y.-based company with a product range that is complementary to VP Supply’s offering and includes plumbing, heating, kitchen, bath and industrial supplies.
Known locally as Sawyer’s, it serves both contractor and residential customers from its location at 64 Glen St. atop Glen Street Hill. Sawyer’s, established in 1883, retained all 23 local employees and now is named J.E. Sawyer & Co., a division of VP Supply Corp.
“J.E. Sawyer’s expertise and selection in the industrial and contractor supply category is new to VP’s existing customer base in the region,” VP Supply Vice President Gary Perkins said. “It’s a good fit for the I-87 corridor. There was a gap of quite some size between our Clifton Park and Plattsburgh locations. VP customers operating between the two locations now have a more convenient choice.”
Sawyer’s will benefit from several new product categories. “VP Supply brings things to Sawyer’s customers that we didn’t have such as renewable energy and geothermal,” said Sawyer’s President Daniel Olden, who has been with the company for 47 years.
Along with having a strategic impact, VP Supply noted the acquisition respects the people-first culture that exists at both companies. “Sawyer’s has been a long-standing fixture in the Glens Falls community,” VP Supply Regional Manager David Bouyea said. “They employ local people, and in some cases, even generations of family.”
VP Supply’s footprint has expanded to 15 branches across New York state and western Pennsylvania. All branches are backed by the company’s 80,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Rochester.
