The ASA Women in Industry (WII) Division was formed four years ago with an eye on the long-term sustainability of the PHCP-PVF industry. It was clear that more needed to be done to attract women into this male-dominated field and retain and promote women currently employed. This division provides a welcoming place for women entering the industry, as well as networking and education opportunities for the current workforce.
With both goals in mind, WII has partnered with Texas A&M University’s Society of Women in Industrial Distribution. This new organization is working to create an environment that connects women in industrial distribution and allows them to share advice about professional and life experiences. Ten current students will be participating in the WII Spring Conference, April 26-28 in Austin, Texas, to further their mission and network with the division’s members. Additionally, these students, along with former students currently employed in the industry, will share their career goals and expectations to help companies better position their recruiting efforts.
As the partnership grows, the division anticipates formalizing a mentoring program with Texas A&M University, as well as other industrial distribution groups, to attract more talent into our industry.
