A leading business magazine has recognized Meridian, Mississippi-based Southern Pipe and Supply as one of its “Top 100 Medium-Sized Companies to Work for in America.”
Fortune Magazine named Southern Pipe as the only wholesaler in any industry to receive this honor, and the only plumbing, heating and air conditioning, waterworks, and industrial distribution company to make the list. This marks the second time in the last three years Southern Pipe has been selected by Fortune for its “Best Companies” list.
“Culture with Southern Pipe is not a cool perk or slogan, it’s something that permeates through the people working within this organization,” said Jay Davidson, president of Southern Pipe. “We call our employees family members and our family members are superstars. They are dedicated, wonderful people who genuinely care for each other and work tirelessly to be the best in the industry. This recognition is a testament to everyone’s hard work, and I hope every person at Southern Pipe feels as much pride with this incredible recognition as I do.”
Fortune's medium workplace rankings are based entirely on the feedback from employees of participating companies. Employees completed an anonymous Trust Index survey, answering questions about how frequently they experience behaviors that create a great workplace, such as the assessment of the honesty and quality of communication by managers, the degree of support for employees' personal and professional lives and other factors. Earning a spot on this list indicates the company has distinguished itself from its peers by creating a great place to work consistent across the organization, Southern Pipe said. The “Best Medium Workplace” list is for companies with 100 to 999 employees.
Ron Black, Southern Pipe's director of human resources, added: "This recognition is intertwined with our Employer of Choice strategy that began 20 years ago. We believed if we could attract the best employees in the industry and give them the support and appreciation to do their job, we would gain a competitive advantage. Building the best culture in the industry allows us to serve the customer better than our competitors and by Southern Pipe making this list again, we view our Employer of Choice strategy as a true competitive advantage.”
Southern Pipe and Supply, a recent winner of the Supply House Times Supply House of the Year Award, was founded in 1938 and has more than 100 storefronts in a seven-state footprint in the southern United States (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee).
