Current situation:
NYMEX domestic hot-rolled coil steel prices (CRU-HRCc1) were $1,930 per ton in September ($1,880 per ton in the last update).
Producer prices for steel pipe and tube were up 9.2% month-over-month in August (up 9% last month) and are still near the highest on record. Year-over-year, prices are 63.5% higher (48.8% higher Y/Y last month).
Key factors that could affect supply or price:
After a protracted climb, we are seeing a decline in hot rolled coil prices. Carbon steel pipe prices have just started to fall slightly. But strong demand and plant capacity issues will threaten to keep prices elevated through the end of the year.
