LIXIL is dedicated to fostering a profound sense of purpose by prioritizing various environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives.
Doing so means moving from business as usual to a less-traveled path, similar to the act of "painting outside the lines." It transcends manufacturing and actually reaches into the core of why we do it. Our 20-year partnership with the American Supply Association (ASA) arms us with the tools and knowledge necessary to live our purpose of "making better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere."
Kelly Safis, leader, sales, LIXIL Americas, understands the importance of the LIXIL and ASA long-standing relationship.
“In light of the shifting landscape, our customers, communities, suppliers, shareholders, and employees are increasingly endorsing decisions and behaviors that align with their values and seek out companies that demonstrate a resolute, unwavering commitment to making a clear and positive impact on the world,” she says.
“LIXIL is grappling with an issue I believe affects all manufacturing organizations: how do we balance profitability with doing the right thing? We are part of so many initiatives that make me a proud employee — we are much more than a manufacturer of toilets and sinks.
In today’s world, our customers need assurance that their suppliers and manufacturers are on the right team. Diversity, quality, and sustainability are all critical components, and we must get them right for our customers.”
Learning plays a crucial role in the ASA and LIXIL partnership. "This year alone, we have offered over 120 e-learning courses to ASA members," says Maryrose Debor, sales training content specialist at LIXIL. "In today's fast-paced, technologically advanced world, it's essential to equip our partners with the tools they need to succeed. Our courses cover a wide range of topics, including commercial launches, new product introductions, and 'Pros Know' plumbing essentials."
LIXIL's TradeUP program is dedicated to training the next generation of plumbers and growing the plumbing industry by fostering brand loyalty through early partnerships with customers and wholesalers. By aligning with U.S. local, commercial, and industry standards, LIXIL aims to expand the program nationwide. As the stigma surrounding trades diminishes, an increasing number of people are eagerly seeking these training programs, resulting in waiting lists at schools.
Vinny Arnese, leader, TradeUp Outreach at LIXIL Americas, aptly puts it, "Plumbers are water doctors, providing hygienic solutions to their communities and offering a vital service,” he says. “This is a job that transcends gender, requiring technical expertise and customer service skills.”
The TradeUP program highlights the significant role of plumbers as craftspeople and professionals who provide hygienic solutions. With great pay and the opportunity to avoid college debt, plumbing is becoming an attractive career choice. The program underscores the importance of these skilled trades in ensuring hygiene and public health.
LIXIL is actively working to challenge preconceived notions and stereotypes within the trades industry. Committed to fostering inclusivity, the company has developed initiatives aimed at opening the field of plumbing to women. Through partnerships with organizations like Tools and Tiaras, LIXIL introduces young girls to the trades as a viable career choice. For several years, LIXIL has participated in summer camps, offering young girls immersive experiences and introductions to plumbing careers.
Additionally, LIXIL employees have published a book, “Tubby Time,” aimed at inspiring young children to consider the trades.
"Here’s hoping this book inspires young girls to go into the trades and shows how critical plumbers are to keeping us safe, our drinking water clean, and of course, our 'tubby time' nice and warm," says Debor, the author of the book.
The ongoing relationship between LIXIL and the ASA is pivotal in pursuing purpose-driven goals. With ASA's resources and support, LIXIL continues to innovate, overcome challenges, and foster business growth.
Here's to another year of shared learning and progress as LIXIL and ASA move forward together.
