Master distributor Smith-Cooper International has acquired Flo-Rite Products Co., a Vancouver, Wash.-based distributor of valves and accessories. Effective Feb. 11, the acquisition will complement the SCI line of signature fittings and nipples and will allow the company to offer a more comprehensive product line.

Flo-Rite, founded 20 years ago, produces a line of private-label valves sold exclusively to wholesalers. The products will be available through SCI's distribution outlets throughout the United States by the end of the year.

In addition, the purchase of Flo-Rite doubles the size of SCI. "There's a real synergy between our companies," said Bob Cooper, SCI vice president. "We utilize their products and valves, and they use our product line and program with their customers. We have a full commitment to our inventory -- not only to our quality and service, but every single product line."

Flo-Rite's management team will remain with the company. Larry Cassidy will continue as president, and Mike Long will still serve as its vice president/general manager.
