U.S. Industries has completed the sale of its domestic lighting companies, including LCA Group Inc., to Hubbell Inc. Also, James O'Leary, currently chairman/CEO of LCA Group, will leave to pursue other interests following a transitional period.

Following the completion of its disposal plan, U.S. Industries will own several major businesses selling branded bath and plumbing products, along with its consumer vacuum cleaner company. Its principal brands will include Jacuzzi, Zurn, Sundance Spas, Eljer, and Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners.

Also, the company announced a reduction in force and the closing of its corporate office in Iselin, N.J., which is expected to be completed by mid-summer. U.S. Industries' headquarters will be consolidated into its smaller facility in West Palm Beach, Fla.

In other news, the company reported improved income from continuing operations and sales increases for both the second quarter and first half ended March 31. Second quarter income was $3.0 million vs. a loss of $1.1 million last year. More detailed results will be published in the July issue.
