LA-CO/Markal celebrated 70 years in business in 2004. The company traces its roots to 1934 when Dr. Lester Aronberg, a research chemist and steel industry consultant, created a paint stick for marking steel. He formed Lake Chemical Co., which used the brand “Markal” for paint sticks and related industrial marking products, and later evolved into LA-CO/Markal.
