The August 2005 issue of Consumer Reports magazine provided advice and information about bathroom remodels, including product ratings on countertops, sinks, whirlpool tubs, showerheads and toilets.
Among the toilets mentioned in the report are the Eljer Titan and several other of its models; Carlyle by TOTO; Niagara Conservation Flapperless; Jacuzzi Cetra; Sterling Rockton Dual Force; Waterworks Exeter; and two or more models from each of the following: Kohler (including Cimarron Comfort), American Standard (including Champion), Gerber Ultra Flush, Mansfield (including EcoQuantum), Crane (including Economiser), and Briggs (including Classic Vacuity).
In its coverage of bathroom sinks, Consumer Reports discussed glass and stainless steel versions and vessels. It tested the various materials used for bathroom sinks in terms of their resistance to stains, scratches, dents or shattering, dings or chips and heat. The three top-ranked materials based on these measurements were enameled cast iron, enameled steel and glass.
The magazine evaluated selected models of water-jet, air-jet and combination water and air jet whirlpool tubs in terms of massage/seating; controls; noise; heat loss; and energy use.
Its coverage of showerheads included products by Kohler, Moen, ShowHouse by Moen, Delta, Waterpik, Price Pfister, Grohe, Hansgrohe, American Standard, Pollenex, Speakman, Ondine, Waterworks, Pegasus and Rohl. Both adjustable and rainshower style showerheads were evaluated for shower feel, hot-water temperature, ease of setting, number of flow patterns and hard-water compatibility.
