Ferguson, based in Newport News, Va., opened its fifth XpressNet store in the metro Boston area, with another one on the way later this year.
The Massachussets main branch is in Lynn, with satellite locations in Braintree, Cambridge, Woburn, and most recently, Natick, which opened on December 13. The Lynn branch has a bath and kitchen gallery. Its customers include designers and homeowners. The other stores focus solely on contractors, maintaining a professional atmosphere with the customer's specific needs in mind.
Ferguson currently operates 15 XpressNet locations nationwide, and that number will continue to grow this fiscal year.
The name “XpressNet” is an abbreviated form of express network. The XpressNet locations, designed to be “convenience” stores that support the contractor, are typically located within 15 minutes of the customer. XpressNet stores maintain a consistent inventory, with stock replenished daily. They are stand-alone stores, each about 3,000 sq. ft., with no offices, warehouses or outside storage. According to Ferguson, XpressNet stores are popular with customers because they can see what's available and select what they want from off the shelf. Instead of taking counter orders, XpressNet employees are able to provide personalized, efficient service. “We offer a convenient solution for the contractors working on the Route 9 corridor,” said Phil Burke, manager of the new 4,000-sq.-ft. Natick store at 64 Worcester Road, (Route 9), in a statement. The store is stocked with plumbing, heating, residential and PVF products, featuring brands such as Moen, Delta, Kohler, Grohe and Proflo.
