The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) announced the hiring of Dave Viola as director of Special Services. Prior to joining IAPMO, Viola served as technical director for the Plumbing Manufacturers Institute, where he oversaw all plumbing code, plumbing product standard, product certification, and technical training activities. He served a five-year term as chairperson of the ASME A112 Committee on Plumbing and is also a charter member of the board of directors for the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE). In his new role, Viola will assess what is state-of-the-art in green building and sustainable construction codes and standards and will spearhead IAPMO’s increased coordination and involvement with these activities. Also, he will keep the IAPMO membership appraised of the rapidly developing technologies and practices in these areas.

In other news, IAPMO hired Amir Zamanian, P.E., as its new business unit director. Prior to joining IAPMO, he has held positions with the California Dept. of Transportation; various large public works contracting and engineering firms; and the Department of Capital Projects for the county of Allegheny, PA.
