Upper Marlboro, Md.-based Thos. Somerville recently announced several executive management changes effective Jan. 1.
Doug Riley will be promoted from Northern vice-president of sales to president. Riley will replace Pat McGowan (33-plus years with the company), who will transition into retirement by relinquishing the president role to Riley in 2015 and then the CEO position in the middle of 2016.
Riley began his career with Somerville in 1986 following a temporary summer position the previous year. He worked through every level of the organization throughout his tenure.
At the same time, Dan Kelly (26-plus years with the company) will be promoted to executive vice president to oversee several areas of focus, including showrooms, marketing, purchasing, central distribution, expansion, and recruiting and training. Kelly started in sales and later became a manager and general manager before taking on the role of Southern vice-president of sales. Twenty-plus-year company veterans Ray Mikell (HVAC/hydronics) and Joe Pioli (plumbing) have been promoted to vice-president of sales positions.
