Funded by a donation from Keeney Mfg. Co., the Newington, Conn., Police Department recently offered its first citizen’s academy to teens. The youth academy gives teens the opportunity to learn about active shooter scenarios, K9 training and proper handling techniques when deploying a stun gun.
The goal of the five-day academy is to teach teens lifelong skills such as leadership, loyalty, discipline and teamwork. The academy also bridges the gap between police and local citizens through active engagement. Keeney dress-down day events sponsor local and national charities, with money donated by employees and matched by the company.
