Bill Arenberg, the former CEO of Chicago-based Columbia Pipe & Supply, died Nov. 27 at the age of 86.
Arenberg, a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Marine Corps., is the father of current Columbia Pipe & Supply President Tim Arenberg and Vice President T.J. Arenberg, who represent the third generation of family leadership.
Columbia Pipe & Supply was founded by Ted Arenberg, Tom Floro, Harry Shoff and Carl Zoeller in 1935. The Arenberg family bought controlling interest in Columbia in 1974. Today, Columbia Pipe & Supply, the 1992 Supply House Times Supply House of the Year, has more than 20 locations throughout Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.
Arenberg is the husband of Lorriane, father of Tim, Julie (Curtis) Robb, Glen, T.J. (Lucy), the late Donna (Pat) Troy and Gail; cherished grandfather of Rachel (James), Kari, Lindsey, Tyler, Haley, Parker, Kevin, Hannah, Jack and Sam, and great-grandfather of Addison and Sophie.
