Tactical empathy

We begin on Wednesday, Sept. 18th, with Chris Voss, The Black Swan Group. He takes the stage to kick-off the AIM/R 52nd Annual Conference (Sept. 17 –21, 2024).

Chris will share strategies from his years of experience as an FBI Negotiator and from his book – Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if Your Life Depended On It®. Participants learn how to:

  • Obtain business outcomes without compromise
  • Consider counterintuitive tactics
  • Transition to a collaboration vs. cutthroat mindset
  • Take emotional intelligence and intuition to a higher level in their businesses.

Chris is known as “The Master Negotiator”. A title earned throughout his time serving as the lead Crisis Negotiator for the New York City Division of the FBI, and then as the lead international kidnapping negotiator for the FBI where he helped develop the skills still used today across FBI hostage negotiators. He proceeded to teach business negotiation at USC, Georgetown, and Harvard business schools.

In 2008, Chris founded The Black Swan Group, which specializes in teaching you how to never leave money on the table by using hostage negotiation techniques. In May 2016, he published the international best-seller Never Split The Difference: Negotiation As If Your Life Depended On It to teach people everywhere how to apply these life-changing hostage negotiation techniques in their daily lives.

He is proficient in negotiating with real terrorists, giving him plenty of context to help in the corporate world, where companies seem to get legally taken “hostage” all the time.

Conflict management – Wednesday, Sept. 19

SAY YES TO CONFLICT. Lots of people would rather avoid a situation entirely than have a tough conversation. In this session attendees will first learn about their primary conflict response. Then, through a series of engaging (individual and group) activities, shifts will be made to ease participants to explore other ways to have conversations, with results.

Restore trust –Thursday, Sept. 20

TRUST: GET, GIVE, REPEAT. Trust is foundational to communication; In Nancy’s opinion without trust you have squat. In this session you will clearly define what trust means to you personally and www.nancymilton.ca why it’s important that you know and own that. Additional time will be spent exploring how to develop it, create an anchor to it and how to bring it back, once it has been/felt lost.
